In line with its commitment to ESG practices, Plastcromo, an industry specializing in vacuum metallization for the footwear sector, has received an upgrade to its Origem Sustentável certification, moving from the Silver to the Gold level. The certification was presented on the 20th at the company’s headquarters in Parobé, RS.
With sustainability integrated into its business—as vacuum metallization is an environmentally friendly process that doesn’t release waste into the atmosphere and allows for raw material reuse—Plastcromo also stands out for its rainwater harvesting system used in bathrooms and for recycling and reusing 100% of its industrial waste. Through these and other measures, the company reported that it avoided the emission of more than 61 tons of equivalent CO2 into the atmosphere in 2023. Additionally, in 2023, Plastcromo replaced machinery, which reduced its electricity consumption in the injection process by 60%.
The company’s director, Cleomar Berguemaier, emphasized the importance of this progress within the world’s only ESG certification program for companies in the footwear production chain. “We are a leading company, and the Origem Sustentável seal proves that we are on the right path, aligned with the entire market chain and the new practices linked to sustainability,” he stated.
Founded in 2007, Plastcromo is a company specializing in vacuum metallization that produces more than 400,000 pieces daily, supplying the footwear, apparel, hydraulic, and furniture sectors, among others. The company has 300 direct employees, having doubled its workforce in the last two years.
