The Brazilian Association of Companies of Components for Leather, Footwear and Artifacts (Assintecal) is in Pará to continue the “Local Iconography Amazon Biome” project, a joint initiative between the association and Sebrae Nacional, with support from Sebrae Pará and Santarém. This phase, which takes place from May 12 to 19, includes lectures to present the project, creative workshops, and visits to 20 local micro-enterprises. These businesses are receiving consulting to help them apply the research, which is coordinated by Walter Rodrigues and sustainability strategist Julia Webber.

The project’s coordinator, Walter Rodrigues, explains that the initiative, conducted in the territories of Santarém, Alter do Chão, Belterra, and Mojuí dos Campos, has developed in-depth territorial research focused on local identity. The investigation covers elements such as the biome, history, architecture, cuisine, beliefs, artisanal knowledge, popular festivals, and a color palette representative of the region. “Based on the creative inputs from the research, Assintecal is helping local micro and small businesses develop products and services with a territorial identity, valuing the regional fashion ecosystem, and promoting innovation based on local culture,” Rodrigues explains. He adds that the research, which is being applied through consulting until May 19, serves as a foundation for developing innovative collections that celebrate the culture of belonging.

The next stages of the “Local Iconography Amazon Biome” project will continue until September 2025 and will include consulting, lectures, and workshops to train micro and small businesses. The results will be presented at COP30, which will be held in November in Belém, PA.
