The Brazilian Association of Companies of Components for Leather, Footwear and Artifacts (Assintecal) carried out another phase of the Local Iconography Amazon Biome project between September 17th and 27th. The initiative, in partnership with Sebrae Nacional and Sebrae Pará, took place in Santarém/PA and involved capturing images (photos and videos) and a presentation of the materials developed so far.
Silvana Dilly, Assintecal’s Superintendent, who monitored the content capture and presentation, stated that the project is in its final stages and will be officially presented at COP 30 in November. According to her, the initiative has already completed eight creative workshops, seven lectures, press conferences, and dozens of on-site and online mentoring sessions in Pará. “Our objective is to value the local identity and, more than that, to train micro-entrepreneurs for the sustainable use of Amazonian richness in the creation of solutions and products that have the forest as their starting point,” she commented.
Project Scope and Impact
The initiative, carried out in the territories of Santarém, Alter do Chão district, Belterra, and Mojuí dos Campos, developed in-depth territorial research focusing on local identity. The investigation covers elements such as the biome, history, architecture, cuisine, beliefs, artisanal knowledge, popular festivals, and a color palette representative of the region.
Based on the creative inputs from this research, Assintecal assists local businesses in developing products and services with a territorial identity, valuing the regional fashion ecosystem and promoting innovation based on local culture. Thus, the research serves as the foundation for developing innovative collections that highlight the culture of belonging in the fashion, furniture, tourism/gastronomy, hospitality, handicrafts, and general creative economy segments. In total, more than 80 new materials and solutions are planned.
The businesses that hosted the teams for image capturing included: Amazoniere, Amélias da Amazônia, Biojoias Natureza Viva, Chácara Nova Esperança, Casa do Eltom, Coomflona – Cooperativa Mista da Flona Tapajós, Cuias Aíra – Associação das Artesãs Ribeirinhas de Santarém (Asarisan), Deveras Amazônia, Escola Indígena Borari Antônio de Sousa Pedroso, Etno Confecções Borari – Associação de Mulheres Indígenas Suraras do Tapajós, H Móveis Madeira, Quintal Produtivo Belt Bom, Loja Zagaia, Mestre Jefferson Paiva, Nunghara Biojoias, Pousada do Mingote, Quilombo de Murumurutuba – Rafro Modas, Quilombo de Murumurutuba – Azearte, Trançados do Arapiuns, and Viveiro Floresta Ardosa.
