This project, carried out by the Brazilian Association of Companies of Components for Leather, Footwear and Artifacts (Assintecal) through Brazilian Materials—an export support program for the sector maintained in partnership with the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (ApexBrasil) and Sebrae Acre—will have its official launch. The launch, which will feature the participation of ApexBrasil’s president, Jorge Viana, will take place at 7 PM on Sunday, July 27, at the Sebrae Pavilion.

The Respira Acre project was first presented at INSPIRAMAIS, an exhibition organized by Assintecal last January. Expoacre will be the first time the project is presented in the state that inspired its creation. On July 27, in addition to the presentation, some of the biomaterials identified during an immersion in the Amazon rainforest will also be exhibited. Marnei Carminatti, project coordinator and consultant for Assintecal’s Design and Research Nucleus, highlights that visitors to Expoacre will have access to biomaterials such as natural fibers from buriti, banana trees, and stickseed, as well as a great diversity of applications with açaí, jarina, and tucumã seeds, and products derived from sustainable latex extraction. “In the forest, there is a paradise for creatives, full of textures, colors, and ancestral design. Part of this will be materialized in the exhibition,” he anticipates.

The Project

Created last year, Respira Acre is the result of an immersion in the Amazon rainforest with the aim of identifying materials and encouraging the sustainable use of the forest. In total, Assintecal’s team of researchers and designers identified 18 biomaterials that can be used in the fashion industry. Some of these products will be exhibited in an individualized space at the Sebrae Pavilion throughout the event.
